Paul's Prose February 2021 - The Great Pandemic Economy Feb 22, 2021 Paul Monette. The Great Pandemic Economy: Let’s pretend someone wrote a book about a pandemic that took over the world. A pandemic that forced people to stay home for over a year. A pandemic that killed 2.5 million people and counting. National Book Award-winner Paul Monette presents a transcendent, powerful novel of three AIDS widowers who have seen each other through the worst of times. Paul Monette's literary career was promising. He had done a couple poetry books as well several gay novels like Taking Care of Mrs. Carroll (1978) and The Gold Diggers (1979). He was a capable writer, but he had not discovered his voice. When AIDS arrived, he found it. On the front lines of the epidemic he picked up his pen and began to capture the horror as it happened.
